About Karen McWilliam
The birth of my daughter inspired me to journey into the world of childbirth education, and labour, post-partum and breastfeeding support.
My entire body of work is focused around prenatal and postpartum care. I received my birth doula certification from DONA International and have attended well over 100 births in a variety of settings. I am also a postpartum doula, childbirth educator, breastfeeding consultant, certified HypnoBirth® (Mongan method) practitioner, a Birthing From Within Mentor and mother of two amazing children. I am also a certified prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher. Having practiced yoga myself for many, many years, I am passionate about sharing the benefits of yoga in general and prenatal yoga in particular.
While living in the Yukon (1994-2005) I was the director of a local prenatal program and began teaching yoga and childbirth education in 2003. Upon moving to Toronto, I completed the yoga teacher training program at YogaSpace in 2006, and an Advanced Prenatal Yoga certification shortly thereafter.
I am continually upgrading and expanding my knowledge and experience by attending various birthing workshops and advanced teacher trainings, including HypnoBirthing® and Birthing From Within®. My greatest teachers and source of all that is light and precious are my two children, Aislin and Gabriel. Thank you for chosing me to come through into being. I also wish to acknowledge and thank all of the women, partners and babies who continue to inspire me in my work. I am truly blessed and thankful for finding my passion and love of this work.
Continue reading: PhilosphyHow we give birth matters! What our babies experience shapes who they are. What a mother experiences at the very transition from maiden to mother changes her. Gentle, natural birth unlocks something primal at our very core that makes mothering easier and makes families stronger…If parents would only realize that every single decision they make from conception onward influences the outcome of their birth, they could reclaim what they didn’t even know was lost.”
