Karen's Philosophy and Mentoring Approach:
The birth of my daughter inspired me to journey into the world of Childbirth Education, Preparation and Labour, Postpartum and Breastfeeding Support. My entire body of work is focused around prenatal and postpartum care. I passionately support and mentor "Team Transitionings" and am available for both the families I support as well as the doulas I work with throughout the pregnancy and early postpartum period.

I am passionate and dedicated in helping families find their own source of wisdom and strength as they move through their pregnancy and parenting journey. With so much contradictory information available outside ourselves, I guide women and families to not only uncover the basic intuitive knowing in their bones, but also to be savvy about the current birth culture and the wide range of birth choices available. My approach is non-judgemental and compassionate.

My greatest teachers and source of all that is light and precious in my world, are my two children - Aislin and Gabriel. Thank you for choosing me to come through into being.

I also wish to acknowledge and thank all of the women, partners and babies who continue to inspire me in my work. I am truly blessed and thankful for finding my passion and love of this work.

photoMy goal in life is to love my work no matter what I'm doing. So as a doula, I'm caring, relaxed and fun-loving. I am professionally trained as a birth doula and postpartum doula, continually learning and honing the art of being a doula by working with experienced doulas. In fact, I have spent many years watching and absorbing mother-wisdom from some very powerful women. I became a doula to put all this to good use and help parents have joyful birth experiences.

I am skilled in breastfeeding support, an area in which I am working on specializing. It is an area I am passionate about, partly due to my experience of nursing my own two babies. They are not babies anymore - I am mama to 11 year old Violet and 9 year old Matti who are the best teachers in the world and the most humbling!

I am also trained in acupressure techniques for pregnant and labouring women and experienced in supporting Hypno-Birthing families. My approach is peaceful, non-judgemental and I love being a doula!

How we give birth matters! What our babies experience shapes who they are. What a mother experiences at the very transition from maiden to mother changes her. Gentle, natural birth unlocks something primal at our very core that makes mothering easier and makes families stronger...If parents would only realize that every single decision they make from conception onward influences the outcome of their birth, they could reclaim what they didn't even know was lost."
